It has a thick-walled 16,5" cold hammer-forged carbon steel Match barrel. It is highly accurate and allows repeatable shots. The ergonomic design of the firearm allows comfortable handling and operation. Permanently attached to the receiver, the adjustable stock allows for a comfortable shooting position. The AR-style pistol grip has a minimalist profile and fits the hand very well. The integrated free-float handguard significantly improves barrel behavior when firing, improving stability. The Savage 64 has a Picatinny rail with a 20 MOA incline, which gives greater scope adjustment capability, especially at longer distances. In addition, the handguard has an M-Lok rail system and a Harris sling swivel, which allow a wide range of accessory mounting, including a bipod. The firearm also has ambidextrous controls and the option to move the lever to the left side.
